Project Overview
The Makeup and Beauty Skills Training Project is one of Oma HelpingHands Foundation’s flagship empowerment programs, created to equip young women with practical skills for self-reliance and financial stability.
In many parts of Nigeria, unemployment and economic hardship leave women with limited opportunities to earn income or support their families. This project provides them with marketable beauty and entrepreneurial skills that open doors to independence and dignity.
What We Did
The Foundation organized a one-month, fully sponsored training program focused on makeup artistry and gele (head tie) styling, conducted in collaboration with Ever Glowy Hub.
Participants received step-by-step instruction in bridal and casual makeup, skin preparation, product selection, and application techniques. The curriculum also included client relations, business management, and financial literacy, ensuring trainees were not only skilled artisans but also prepared to manage and grow their own businesses.
At the end of the training, graduates were awarded certificates of completion and given starter kits containing professional makeup tools and essential supplies. These kits allowed them to begin working immediately within their communities, turning newly learned skills into income.
Impact
For many of the women, this was their first real opportunity to acquire a skill that could change their lives. Several participants have already begun offering beauty services in their neighborhoods, earning income to support their families and gaining newfound confidence in their abilities.
Beyond income, the program inspired hope and strengthened social ties—each woman empowered becomes a role model, demonstrating that with opportunity and support, transformation is possible.
The graduation ceremony was filled with celebration, pride, and gratitude as families and friends witnessed what determination and compassion can achieve when joined together.
Transparency and Accountability
Every stage of the program—from trainee selection to graduation—was documented and supervised to ensure fair participation and effective learning outcomes. Training materials, tools, and certificates were distributed under the Foundation’s oversight, with full reporting available for donor verification.
Looking Ahead
Following the success of this initiative, Oma HelpingHands Foundation plans to expand its empowerment programs by offering new trades such as hairdressing, tailoring, catering, and digital skills training.
With ongoing donor support, the Foundation aims to establish vocational hubs across communities, providing more women and youth with access to practical skills and mentorship that lead to lasting change.
